How to take proper care of your appliances.

Appliances from great brands like Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid, Bosch and Avanti are made to perform at their best with regular maintenance. Keep your appliance in great shape by performing these regular maintenance tips from Kermerita Thompson, the Customer Service Rep. at Master Technicians. She expertly handles all service calls to Master Technicians and has put together this list of her most popular maintenance tips to avoid appliance issues.

Refrigerator

Check the door seal occasionally to ensure that it is okay. If it is not okay, then you may need to adjust the door or replace the seal. A bad seal or misaligned door could secretly be costing you a fortune in wasted energy costs.

Exposed condenser coils should be vacuumed regularly for proper air circulation. These can be found at the bottom of the refrigerator either at the front of back depending on your model.

Washing Machine

Never overload the washing machine because that can throw it out of balance.

Putting too much detergent is not good for your washing machine. This causes clogs in machines. Make sure you are using the right detergent for your washer, especially if you have a high efficiency washer.

Clean the cold & hot water inlet regularly.

Lower the water temperature to warm wash and cold rinse to reduce your energy bills.

Occasionally run the washing machine empty with hot water and use Affresh Washer Cleaner by Whirlpool. This will clean out the washing machine and remove any odor causing agents left behind from detergent residue.

If your washing machine is rattling, check if it is leveled properly.

Replace your old washing machine hoses with tougher metal hoses.

Dryer

Clean out the lint trap because the unit needs to breathe. It is usually right next to the door opening. You will know if it is full, as heat will not be able to travel to your clothes, and it may take even two or three cycles to dry them.

Never let lint or debris accumulate under the dryer because that can become a fire hazard.

Want to know a way you can start maintaining your appliance today? Kermerita says “The major thing is to have your appliance serviced regularly. For your appliance to last a long time, have your service done at least once per year.”
